Historical sociolinguistics

Collaborating with Professor Hiroyuki Takada (Gakushuin University), Professor Katsumi Shibuya (Osaka University), and Stephan Elspass (Salzburg University), I am actively involved in the field of historical sociolinguistics. There will be a Salzburg seminar on historical sociolinguistics in 2016, which I jointly organize with Professor Elspass.

Verb complementation in the history of English

Since 1999, I have been working on the historical development of complementation of English verbs for the past ten years. Publications include Verbs of Implicit Negation and their Complements in the History of English (John Benjamins, 2010).

Spoken professional American English

This is a collaborative project since 2001 with Michiko Yaguchi at Setsunan University and Yasumasa Baba at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics. By using the Corpus Spoken Professional American English, we have been analyzing discoursal techniques used in spoken interactions.
